Not unless you work in as an emergency responder. And honestly, if one did that, I'd ditch the barbells and rely on sandbag training, because the sandbag is awesome for that.

Everyday life for humans has become so stagnant at this point that pretty much all fitness is an affront to it, and there's nothing wrong with that. The issue is when folks try to assert that their hobby is more functional than someone else's hobby. The powerlifter isn't more functional than the bodybuilder or the ninja warrior, because all of that stuff is insane for everyday life, haha.Emevashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14983296057210465714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241010404351033906.post-79532137516642754672019-10-16T19:22:06.316-07:002019-10-16T19:22:06.316-07:00If "Functional Strength" is to mean anyt...If "Functional Strength" is to mean anything it should mean strength which has particularly good carryover to everyday, emergency situations and common human movements. The big barbell movements all approximate movement patterns which fit these criteria as do most strongman events. I'd call them real functional strength.

The most egregious example I've seen of the term being miss used was an exercise class at my local sport center they called "anamorphic fitness" where they had people do various animal movements such as bear crawls.
Don't get me wrong, these movements might be great for certain professions or sports but for most people copying animals is pretty much as far as you can get from everyday human movements.Bloody Pommel Studioshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18272883460103253406noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241010404351033906.post-51039773109696285772018-01-07T10:03:10.984-08:002018-01-07T10:03:10.984-08:00I unloaded trucks for years. I am demonstrably capable of pushing a four-wheeler at three miles per hour with a 250lb guy steering the thing.

My one trick that makes women love me? I built a foundation around bench press, squat, and deadlift. I never even achieved that high a level, either. The carry over is just immense to anything in my experience.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12864904948875512259noreply@blogger.com
